The authors have investigated the brink depth and the energy dissipation of nappe flows over stepped chutes. The discussers studied aerated flow characteristics in stepped channels (Ohtsu et al. Citation2005, Takahashi et al. Citation2005, Citation2007). Herein, the clear-water depth d w of the nappe flow regime is compared with the authors’ brink depth h b (Fig. 4 in the authors’ paper). Also, the energy head for the nappe flow regime is discussed in view of aerated flow characteristics.
