Abstract

The main examples of the typology with aligned domes in the Bari area are reviewed, drawing a case study which includes the original structure and its developments, the subsequent alterations and rearrangements, up to substantial insights into the 19th-20th century restorations and hints on the critical luck. Many notations are appropriately reserved for the current state of conservation, placed in relation to previous interventions and the relationship with the urban or landscape context. In fact, most of these buildings arise in suburban or rural contexts, often linked to smaller inhabited centres, with an agricultural vocation, extinct over the centuries and remained as a memory only in the place of worship. The Apulian churches with aligned domes constitute a rather compact patrimony in terms of chronology (from the 9th to the 14th century), typology and construction systems.
