The aim of this work is to provide the results of a series of experimental tests to study the behaviour of frames equipped with energy-dissipating devices. The frame has been mounted on a shaking table and subjected to increasing seismic actions. Energy-dissipating devices are built by assembling panels in aluminium and steel, designed in such a manner that the local plasticization allows seismic energy dissipation. Two different types of panels have been considered, which differ in plate junction technology. The dissipation capacities are evaluated by measuring the change of the dynamic characteristics of the frame.

Abstract

The aim of this work is to provide the results of a series of experimental tests to study the behaviour of frames equipped with energy-dissipating devices. The frame has been mounted on a shaking table and subjected to increasing seismic actions. Energy-dissipating devices are built by assembling panels in aluminium and steel, designed in such a manner that the local plasticization allows seismic energy dissipation. Two different types of panels have been considered, which differ in plate junction technology. The dissipation capacities are evaluated by measuring the change of the dynamic characteristics of the frame.
