This paper provides an accurate and efficient methodology for solving the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations in two and three dimensions. Moreover, a solution-adaptive local grid-refinement strategy is combined with the multigrid cycle. Conservative periodic boundary conditions on non-periodic C-grids have been developed. The adaptive-multigrid methodology is applied to the computation of the two-dimensional transonic turbulent flow through the VKI LS-59 cascade, whereas the three-dimensional subsonic turbulent flow through a low aspect ratio turbine stator has been computed by means of a standard grid. Abstract

This paper provides an accurate and efficient methodology for solving the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations in two and three dimensions. A flux difference splitting method is employed for the inviscid fluxes, whereas a central scheme is used for the diffusive ones. Efficiency is enhanced by means of a full multigrid technique. Computed results are compared with experimental data available in the literature
