A numerical method based on Floquet-Bloch formalism has been used in this paper to investigate the properties and design criteria of ID multi-quantum-well. (MQW) guided-wave planar photonic bandgap (PBG) structures. The approach allows a clear understanding of all the involved physical effects without making any restrictive assumption. 1D guided-wave PBGs including MQW can be used for microresonators and nonlinear tunable filters.

Abstract
