In this work the authors present the results of the research activity aimed to enhance the Sheet Hydro Forming (SHF) process. The main focus of the analysis is the adoption of a movable inferior plate through which the control of the blank forming is realised. Different solutions have been proved at both the Institute of Metal Research (Chinese Academy of Sciences) and the Centre of Excellence for Mechanical Computation (Polytechnic of Bari). Tests on hemitoroidal parts have been performed at IMR, while Finite Element simulations have been performed at CEMEC. As process parameters the load curve (plate stroke vs. forming pressure) and the plate counterforce have been investigated; thinning along the formed part section, strain paths and stress maps have been analysed.
