Nowadays wind energy conversion system (WECS) is one of the most employed form of renewable generation that may introduce operation problems in the power system. In fact, because of the large size of the latest wind farms, the power produced by this new technology is often delivered to transmission network. As consequence, wind turbines can influence the stability of power system. In this paper, the models of the wind turbines, induction generators (fixed and variable speed) together with the control devices are integrated into a power system for transient stability studies. The simulation results show that wind generator characteristics and their control may remarkably influence power system dynamics.

Abstract

Nowadays wind energy conversion system (WECS) is one of the most employed form of renewable generation that may introduce operation problems in the power system. In fact, because of the large size of the latest wind farms, the power produced by this new technology is often delivered to transmission network. As consequence, wind turbines can influence the stability of power system. In this paper, the models of the wind turbines, induction generators (fixed and variable speed) together with the control devices are integrated into a power system for transient stability studies. The simulation results show that wind generator characteristics and their control may remarkably influence power system dynamics.
