This paper describes a method for evaluating, through experimental results, the compressible volumetric fraction released by a liquid mass crossing a cavitating control valve, by means of some remarks on the values of the pressure drops. It is known that the relationship, valid in fully developed flow with no cavitation occurrence, used for estimating the loss coefficient K falls when the cavitation phenomenon appears and the reason of this behaviour is to be find in the different capacity to dissipate of the arisen compressible portion of flow.

Abstract

This paper describes a method for evaluating, through experimental results, the compressible volumetric fraction released by a liquid mass crossing a cavitating control valve, by means of some remarks on the values of the pressure drops. It is known that the relationship, valid in fully developed flow with no cavitation occurrence, used for estimating the loss coefficient K falls when the cavitation phenomenon appears and the reason of this behaviour is to be find in the different capacity to dissipate of the arisen compressible portion of flow.
