This work presents a stereo-photogrammetry-based system for whole-body shape measurements on tubular samples. The system is designed for allowing future investigations on arterial wall mechanics. An optical set-up including two cameras that share their optical axis is selected as stereo arrangement for retrieving depth information from image-pairs of the sample. The adoption of a concave conical mirror surrounding the specimen makes it possible to capture the reflected 360-deg whole investigated surface in a single snapshot moving neither acquisition system nor object.

Abstract

This work presents a stereo-photogrammetry-based system for whole-body shape measurements on tubular samples. The system is designed for allowing future investigations on arterial wall mechanics. An optical set-up including two cameras that share their optical axis is selected as stereo arrangement for retrieving depth information from image-pairs of the sample. The adoption of a concave conical mirror surrounding the specimen makes it possible to capture the reflected 360-deg whole investigated surface in a single snapshot moving neither acquisition system nor object.
