Abstract

The 'Bari Limestone" are whitish rocks of detrital origin occurring in strata, here and there in beds or slabs from a few centimeters to over one meter thick. Generally stratification is subhorizontal. There are also dark-grey strata composed of dolomitic limestone and/or dolomite Bari limestones represent a portion of the extensive, thick calcareous sequence which constitutes the substratum of the Apulian highland called 'Murgia", A series of boreholes and geophysical tests, performed mainly for building purposes in the area of city of Bari, provides a preliminary geomechanical description of the calcareous rock body through the definition of specific ranges of physical and mechanical parameters. Different parameters such as Core recovery, R.Q.D. index, seismic wave velocity, and specific unit weight are analysed and correlated.
