Abstract

This paper considers manufacturing systems where all the dispatching decisions are taken by different agents associated with a physical resource or in-process entity. Each agent applies weighted combinations of different decision rules. Manipulating rule weights during the plant operation allows the control agents to adapt their decisions to a changing environment. Simulation shows the successful application of this adaptive multi-agent methodology to part dispatching in a flexible Assembly System
