Total, diffusion and viscosity cross sections for the interaction of atomic hydrogen atoms in different electronic states have been calculated by solving an appropriate Schrodinger equation with interaction potentials obtained by the Hartree‐Fock method with full configuration interaction. The results show a strong increase of the total elastic cross section as a function of principal quantum number.

Abstract

Total, diffusion and viscosity cross sections for the interaction of atomic hydrogen atoms in different electronic states have been calculated by solving an appropriate Schrodinger equation with interaction potentials obtained by the Hartree‐Fock method with full configuration interaction. The results show a strong increase of the total elastic cross section as a function of principal quantum number.
