Abstract

The recent introduction into commercial service of the Boeing 777 aircraft has highlighted the need for new advanced design methods for airport pavements, using advanced computer technology. As aircraft landing gears continue to get heavier and more complex, it has become increasingly clear that the traditional design models well known to pavement engineers are oversimplified and inadequate to assess the effect of the new aircraft designs on the nation's airport infrastructure. For rigid pavements, the problem is especially acute. In this research by means of a particular code FEM, the load induced from the new aircraft of the family Boeing: the 777-200HGW is examined. This aircraft has a singular landing gear (tridem) that generate in the rigid pavement elevated tensions and deformations; they cannot be calculated through the classic calculation. Three and two dimensional finite element analysis can help to understand the complex behavior of a pavement under multiple wheel loads. The research determines also the equivalent load on single wheel (QELSW); it is unfit for the simu-lation of the displacements
