Computational performance and the quality of numerical outputs of hydraulic solvers are the critical points in various water distribution system projects. Here, several aspects of the latest computational methodology with potential to improve the numerical stability of a steady-state solver are analysed. The proposed methodology, comprised of the modified reordering algorithm and the explicit formulae–based Cholesky decomposition, is implemented in the CWSNet hydraulic engine, which is currently under development in the Centre for Water Systems. The new methodology is tested on several pipe networks by comparing the numerical outputs of CWSNet and EPANET2 hydraulic solvers.
