Abstract

In many different fields of application there is the need to measure the instantaneous positions of particles in a 3-D field. These measurements are not possible without the necessary spatial and temporal resolution. To overcome many of the difficulties associated with the recording of particles 3-D information, holography was applied and the field of microholography was created many years ago. Recently however, digital holography has provided an additional means to overcome some of the difficulties presented by traditional optical reconstruction. Success in developing a program for the use of a holographic microscope enabling analysis of the image of a particle using evanescent field illumination is performed. The results of the experiment performed by the authors show that it is possible to go beyond the classical resolution limit. Limits that can be reached are discussed both from theoretical and practical points of view.
