One of the most important problems of our days is represented by the Construction and Demolition waste disposal. The building sector employs half of all the quarried resources of the world and produces every year about 450 million tons of waste, more than a quarter of the total production. The scientific community is focused in this direction since many years in order to reduce the C&D waste production, to guarantee their reuse/recycle maximization and, also, to optimize their management, in a more sustainable way. This work has investigated, first of all, which are the criticality connected with the building life cycle stages that are contributing to the waste production increase. The aim is to make use of some Life Cycle Assessment evaluations in order to support the analysis of the environmental characteristics of building products/components, especially with reference to their recyclability content and to compare them with some more traditional ones. Afterwards this work would investigate the LCA evaluation method itself, in order to investigate how to integrate and implement some process inventories, in the recycle direction. This study would propose a method to promote new design choices that, moving away from the idea of the building as something that lasts forever, could be nearest to a more flexible way of building.
