Abstract

The coastal current in the inner part of the Gulf of Taranto, in the North Eastern part of the Ionian Sea (Southern Italy), is examined in the present research. Hydrodynamic and water quality data are recorded by a meteo-oceanographic station installed in the target area by the research unit of the Technical University of Bari - DICATECh Department. Seasonal trends of winds, waves, currents and biochemical parameters, such dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll and turbidity, are analyzed and discussed. They highlight the presence of a top mixed layer near the surface, induced by the wind action, which has a positive effect on the water quality.
