A suitably designed version of a GTEM cell to be used in "in vitro" dosimetric experiments is proposed. In particular, the main requirements linked to biological experiments have been accounted by assuring controllable distribution of the electromagnetic field and suitable temperature and humidity environment inside the GTEM cell in order to allow the survival of the biological sample. The fabricated GTEM cell has been characterized by measuring both the Standing Wave Ratio (SWR) and the outside radiating power in order to verify the impedance matching condition and the electromagnetic shielding of the structure, respectively. The feasibility of the GTEM cell used as dosimetric site has also been investigated by calculating the internal electromagnetic field and the corresponding Specific Absorption Rate (SAR)
