The Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) has become one of the most important and widespread technique for 3D printing. As this technology is nowadays more and more a rapid manufacturing method, the mechanical properties prediction of the parts made by this technique has an increasingly important role. Previous works have highlighted the orthotropic mechanical behaviour of FDM parts showing that the stacking sequence and the single layer properties control the mechanical behaviour of FDM parts. The aim of this work is to describe how the mechanical properties of the FDM single layers change in function of the deposition angle for both ABS and PLA.

Abstract

The Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) has become one of the most important and widespread technique for 3D printing. As this technology is nowadays more and more a rapid manufacturing method, the mechanical properties prediction of the parts made by this technique has an increasingly important role. Previous works have highlighted the orthotropic mechanical behaviour of FDM parts showing that the stacking sequence and the single layer properties control the mechanical behaviour of FDM parts. The aim of this work is to describe how the mechanical properties of the FDM single layers change in function of the deposition angle for both ABS and PLA.
