Abstract

The design of a cladding pumped, erbium doped, microstructured fiber amplifier is refined via a tailor made computer code which takes into account the transitions of the rare earth ion populations the electomagnetic power propagation of pump and signal, the secondary ion-ion interactions. A gain close to G = 32.7 dB is simulated for a fiber about 53.4 m long at the signal wavelength lambda(s) = 1536 mn, for a pump power P-p(O) = 3 W and a co-propagating signal power P-s(0) = 100 mu M.
