L'architettura funeraria a Rodi in età ellenistica. Documentazione locale e forme di contatto

The funerary monument finds its utmost expression in the hellenistic towns through different and original solutions and meanings. Its development is evidently due to the transformations of the hellenistic society thanks to a process involving the political, social and economic life; as a consequence a lot of social classes are involved and assert their presence in a more and more visible way within the local community. In Rhodes the variety of semata shows a varied society and the use of the funerary monument as an “emblematic” status-symbol. The documentation offered by the island can therefore supply an useful term of comparison with other towns, such as Athens and Taranto, equally involved in the elaboration of this expressive form, although with different modes. Through the documentation and the comparison with said poleis some typologies and representative functions will be examined; they introduce elements of contact, reference models, mutual influences and parallel developments among the three towns.

Oggetto d’esame è la funzione assunta dal monumento funerario nella società greca nell’età tardo classica ed ellenistica ed i fenomeni di contatto e reciproca influenza tra le diverse tradizioni culturali, tra le quali quella rodia è assunta come caso di studio. L’analisi esamina tipologie di semata funerari elaborati nell’Atene tardo classica e la loro ricezione in ambito rodio e tarantino, approfondendo la tipologia del naiskos e mettendo in risalto sviluppi, rapporti e reciproche influenze tra i tre diversi ambiti geografici e culturali.
