In the microscopic field corresponding to the tensile deformation of a solid propellant, moiré patterns that show dislocations can be observed. The source of these dislocations is the heterogeneity of the material. A theoretical framework is presented for the analysis of the fringes. The theory includes the justification of the validity of the strain pattern obtained from the moiré fringes.
