Abstract

Over the past decade innovative technologies of photovoltaic cells became topics of particular interest, in addition to traditional technology of silicon cells. Photovoltaic (PV) cells directly transform solar radiation into electric energy. The driving point of a photovoltaic module moves due to changes of several parameters and values of the load connected to the system. In this paper a variety of PV technology generations are briefly described and compared from an efficiency point of view. Main parameters are defined and relations among them are explained to select a set suitable for further investigations of solar cells. Percentage efficiency values derived at Standard Test Conditions are reported for different technologies to provide an overview at one-glance.
