The present study examines a solidification/stabilization treatment of MSW fly ash utilizating a lime-pozzolan binder. The verification of a suitable solidification of the fly ash-binder mixtures was made by determining the compressive strengths of the hardened pastes after various curing periods. X-ray diffractometry and DTA/TG thermoanalytical investigations were carried out which demonstrate the effect of fly ash on the hydration reactions of the lime-pozzolan binder. The stabilization of the fly ash in lime-pozzolan pastes was evaluated through the application of leaching tests. A low concentration of heavy metals in the leachate makes it possible to establish the suitability of the lime-pozzolan binder in fixing these contaminants.
