Solar induced currents (SICs) give rise to detrimental effects on equipment and anomalous operations in power systems especially when long power transmission lines are involved. In this paper, it is shown how the maximum transmissible power of long AC power transmission lines is affected by SICs. The main results are that the presence of SVC makes the system almost insensitive to these spurious currents when an appropriate co-ordinated compensation strategy is designed.

Abstract
Solar induced currents (SICs) give rise to detrimental effects on equipment and anomalous operations in power systems especially when long power transmission lines are involved. In this paper, it is shown how the maximum transmissible power of long AC power transmission lines is affected by SICs. The main results are that the presence of SVC makes the system almost insensitive to these spurious currents when an appropriate co-ordinated compensation strategy is designed.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
