The typology of "a portelle" (little doors) altars, spread in the Salento area during the Baroque period, is an architectural solution used mainly for the high altars; it interacts with the religious buildings internal spatiality becoming the scenic quint of separation between areas with different functions. This paper is part of a research started some years ago with the surveys of the most important Salento Baroque altars to provide a graphic documentary basis to support analysis and comparisons. The study aims to draw a significant casuistry of these miniature façades and focuses, in particular, on the type “a portelle” with the scenic quint variants “libera” (free) or “a parete” (wall).

Abstract
The typology of "a portelle" (little doors) altars, spread in the Salento area during the Baroque period, is an architectural solution used mainly for the high altars; it interacts with the religious buildings internal spatiality becoming the scenic quint of separation between areas with different functions. This paper is part of a research started some years ago with the surveys of the most important Salento Baroque altars to provide a graphic documentary basis to support analysis and comparisons. The study aims to draw a significant casuistry of these miniature façades and focuses, in particular, on the type “a portelle” with the scenic quint variants “libera” (free) or “a parete” (wall).I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
