In this paper, an experimental investigation of the performance of the Selective Laser Melting process was carried out in order to obtain parts with mechanical properties comparable with those obtained with conventional processes. A statistical analysis was employed to study the effects of the main laser parameters on the quality of built parts in terms of hardness, density, roughness, microstructure, and mechanical properties. A Nd:YAG laser, with a spot diameter of 200 μm, was used for samples construction. Moreover, the material used in this experimentation was the AISI Marage 300, a steel mainly used in the die industry, characterized by very good tensile strength and hardness.

Abstract
In this paper, an experimental investigation of the performance of the Selective Laser Melting process was carried out in order to obtain parts with mechanical properties comparable with those obtained with conventional processes. A statistical analysis was employed to study the effects of the main laser parameters on the quality of built parts in terms of hardness, density, roughness, microstructure, and mechanical properties. A Nd:YAG laser, with a spot diameter of 200 μm, was used for samples construction. Moreover, the material used in this experimentation was the AISI Marage 300, a steel mainly used in the die industry, characterized by very good tensile strength and hardness.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
