Abstract

Casalabate village, coastal hamlet of Lecce located on the sides of the Adriatic Sea,was interested by considerable failure phenomena with collapses of some houses and inability of several others. In order to investigate the causes of these phenomena multidisciplinary investigations were carried out:geological survey integrated by 23 drillings and a georadar prospecting as well as physical-chemical analyses,thermo-saline logs and measurements of groundwater filtration velocity. The result of this study is that the terrains which are present in large part of the territory are represented by Fossil dune deposits constituted by irregularly cemented calcarenites, devoid of paracarsic origin cavities, with physical-mechanical properties that are different from place to place;moreover the groundwater flow to the sea is only an horizontal one and it mainly interests some dune levels with Vf about 250centimeter/day.
