The results of an experimental investigation aimed at assessing the potential separation of different plastic polymers of WEEE are presented. Tests designed to measure particle charging of four different polymers (PS, PET, EVA and LDPE) were carried out with a pilot-scale triboelectrostatic separator, followed by experiments exploring particle motion under the influence of an electric field. Single phase stream deflection and PET-EVA mixture separation tests were finally compared.

Abstract

The results of an experimental investigation aimed at assessing the potential separation of different plastic polymers of WEEE are presented. Tests designed to measure particle charging of four different polymers (PS, PET, EVA and LDPE) were carried out with a pilot-scale triboelectrostatic separator, followed by experiments exploring particle motion under the influence of an electric field. Single phase stream deflection and PET-EVA mixture separation tests were finally compared.
