Ultrasonic sensor distance-measurement are generally based on the estimation of the time of flight (ToF). The paper analyzes digital algorithms suitable for pulse-echo measurement applications based on the use of the Wavelet transform. Several causes of inaccuracy are analyzed and characterized and different components of error on level estimation are given in terms of typical parameters of transmitted signal. These simple expressions point out the strategies to be followed for a considerable increasing of the estimation accuracy. Finally, numerical simulation and experimental results are presented.

Abstract
Ultrasonic sensor distance-measurement are generally based on the estimation of the time of flight (ToF). The paper analyzes digital algorithms suitable for pulse-echo measurement applications based on the use of the Wavelet transform. Several causes of inaccuracy are analyzed and characterized and different components of error on level estimation are given in terms of typical parameters of transmitted signal. These simple expressions point out the strategies to be followed for a considerable increasing of the estimation accuracy. Finally, numerical simulation and experimental results are presented.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
