Aim of the present work is to develop and validate an inverse procedure for the mechanical characterization of hyper-elastic materials based on moiré techniques, FEM analysis and optimization. A proper combination of intrinsic moiré and projection moiré allows to obtain the complete 3D displacement field with only one camera. Coordinate transformations are implemented in order to express in the global reference system the displacements measured experimentally in the local reference system lying in the plane tangent to the deformed surface. This has to be done in order to compare experimental data and numerical predictions provided by a finite element model. Finally, an optimization process is used to get the best fit of constitutive equations in order to match experimental and numerical results. The paper presents theoretical basis of the proposed procedure and demonstrates its feasibility in the mechanical characterization of a rubber membrane submitted to increasing pressure load.
