The relationship between technology and design and the definition itself of the word ‘technology’ represents nowadays one of the most important topics related to the contemporary design culture. Education, research and dialogue are concepts that return to be fundamentals in the debate about the identity of modern design which becomes more and more ‘social’ and ‘critical’, especially regarding the relationship between craftsmanship and industry. This contribution intends to investigate the relationship between technology, design and crafts by identifying and examining the technological categories which affect the craft production and that can be the structure of a new dialogical relationship between product innovation (mainly driven by design) and process innovation (mainly pulled by craftsmanship).
