“Buongiorno” Cina = “Good morning” China

I confess that China has always been to me, a far, distant, different, imperial country. A country whose narratives arouse austere, complex, incomprehensible images, always in the balance between history, myth and legend: Big Yu, Jade Emperor, Shen Yi, Pangu, Nüwa, Confucius, Mao Tse Tung, Marco Polo, the Silk Road, the great dynasties, the legendary red army, the great People’s Republic of China, the magnificence of its great monuments, the Great Wall, the exact shape of the city of Beijing, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, the Ming tombs, the fortifications, the towers of Xi’an, the tulou, the rural settlements, the zhuangzhai.

Confesso che la Cina è sempre stata per me un paese lontano, distante, diverso, impe- riale. Un paese le cui narrazioni suscitano immagini austere, complesse, incomprensibili, sempre in bilico tra storia, mito e leggenda: Grande Yu, Imperatore di Giada, Shen Yi, Pangu, Nüwa, Confucio, Mao Tse Tung, Marco Polo, la Via della Seta, le grandi dinastie, la leggendaria armata rossa, la grande Repubblica Popolare Cinese, la magnificenza dei suoi grandi monumenti, la Grande Muraglia, la forma esatta della città di Beijing, la Città Proibita, il Palazzo d’Estate, le tombe dei Ming, le fortificazioni, le torri di Xi’an, i tulou, gli insediamenti rurali, i zhuangzhai.
