We have developed a novel experimental technique to measure the TR yields produced by fast electrons crossing several kinds of radiators, using a telescope of silicon strip detectors (SSDs) operated in conjunction with a magnetic field. The results of our measurement can be explained in the framework of the theoretical models usually adopted for describing typical radiators, providing geometrical constraints on their structure. The results of our measurement can be used for designing new generation transition radiation detectors to be employed in future high-energy physics experiments. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. Abstract
