This work present the development of a prototype for a system to automatically assemble the seal of the brake pliers for FIAT Punto, FIAT Seicento, and LANCIA Y realized by Bosch Braking System (Bari, Italy). Now this operation is manual in the assembly line station. To reduce problems connected with bad assembly and with the possibility of extraneous bodies contamination and to increase productivity a system to automatically assemble the seal of the brake pliers was studied. The aim of this paper is the comparison in terms of costs and time, for the prototype realization, between two technologies: the innovative Rapid Prototyping Stereolithography (SLA) and the traditional use of machine tools. Abstract

Pro/ENGINEER (R) was used for 3D modelling and Pro/MECHANICA for mechanical analysis.
