Wastewater is any type of low-quality water negatively affected by anthropogenic in fl uences. Currently, 80% of the world ’ s wastewater is not treated. This(Velasco-Muñoz et al. 2019). The process of selecting the sample was carried out in the month of May 2019. The fi nal sample analyzed is composed of a total of 1,192 articles. In addition, a search of articles on “ water ” was also carried out with the same restrictions in order to analyze the relative importance of research on waste-water management within this general theme. The variables analyzed were the number of articles per year, their year of publication, all of the authors of the articles, the institutions and countries of all of the authors, the subject area in which Scopus classifies the studies, the name of the journals in which they have been published, and the keywords. The tools used in the data analysis process were Excel (version 2016), SciMAT (v1.1.04), and VOSviewer. Finally, the keyword analysis was used to extract the principal research trends and needs.
