Abstract

One objective of the EU-funded RESCUE project is to develop innovative methods for citizen participation and sustainable planning processes in brownfield regeneration. The project’s results are presented against the background of emerging modes of participatory territorial governance in Europe. The efforts for implementation of participation made in the EU are lagging behind, because the development of concrete instruments didn’t keep up with cultural and political changes. In addition to compiling a selection of good practices concerning the most relevant participation-related issues, RESCUE elaborated a practical tool to assess the quality of citizen participation in brownfields regeneration processes.
