Line C of Rome underground railway is currently under construction. Stretch T3 of the line will cross the archaeological area of the historic centre, with significant interferences with existing monuments of utmost historic value; hence, protective measures will be adopted in order to prevent damage on the most sensitive structures. For Line C, in the framework of the European cooperative project NeTTUN, an embedded wall of bored piles was installed in an instrumented area without pre-existing buildings, in order to assess the effectiveness of such a measure in reducing the displacements induced by the excavation. In this study, a class A finite element prediction of the performance of the barrier is discussed and compared with preliminary data gathered during the passage of the TBMs.
