Abstract

The experiences conducted in recent years by the Urban Planning Research Group of the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture (Dicar) of the Polytechnic of Bari in the enlarged dimension of the metropolitan context of Bari focus on sustainability issues, outlining perspectives and strategies action to be undertaken for a shared commitment of civil society, public institutions and stakeholders in order to pursue the achievement of the objectives set by the UN 2030 Agenda and also shared in the National Strategy on Sustainable Development (Snsvs). This contribution discusses the interpretation of sustainable strategic planning as a field of practice aimed at the development of decisions, policies, actions oriented by needs, aspirations and social objectives, taking different (and combined) forms for the transactional implementation of possible growth and systemic development for the definition of a Bari Metropolitan Agenda. In the fragmented dimension of the contemporary city of the case study, it is fundamental to reconstruct a new form of spatial and functional organization, investigating and recomposing a new image of the Metropolitan City capable of giving meaning to its territory, its endogenous and exogenous resources, the processes of urbanization and with peri-urban fringes. [Martinelli, D’Onghia 2019].The projects and policies related to sustainable development (such as the Action “Agriculture 4.0: rural landscape, urban food policy and innovation in Agriculture” of the Metropolitan Strategic Plan, the Notice of the Ministry of the Environment and the Protection of the Territory and the Mare addressed to the Metropolitan Cities to activate a collaboration in defining Metropolitan Agendas, the launch of the doctoral research project and the Memorandum of Understanding for the agri-environmental development of the metropolitan territory and other experiences addressed) interest and invest different social segments that promote a framework strategic multi-disciplinary and multidisciplinary involving the entire space-functional organization of cities, interactions and emerging issues of the dichotomy between city and countryside. The global challenge to achieve the objectives of Agenda 2030 highlights the implicit need to support initiatives in support of local realities, of territorial ecosystems, of which the agricultural sector represents the link to give shape to new creativity practices in the territories and in cities responding to common needs, uses and routes.
