Torri acquedotto: architetture d’acqua/ architetture sociali = Waterworks towers: water Architectures/ social Architectures

The aqueduct towers are a historical and constructive building heritage, hidden under a type of construction, that of residential tanks, which could be mislead by hiding the real function, that are water tank. This heritage has characterized the architecture and social reality of the early '900 changing the skyline of many countries in southern Italy. These are buildings with a residential nature that conceal, on the top floor, a water collection tank. The aim is to restore the memory and enhance historical building typologies and techniques, avoiding the loss of the identity of a historical moment, and instead reintegrating and reusing these testimonies with functions and activities different from the original ones. Methodology and approach to this theme are validated on the case study of the "Ex Acquedotto dell'Agri" in the city of Bernalda (MT), in the heart of southern Italy.

Le torri acquedotto sono sia dal punto di vista storico che da quello costruttivo un patrimonio edilizio, celato agli occhi di molti sotto una tipologia costruttiva, quello dei Serbatoi Residenziali, che per alcuni versi può trarre in inganno nascondendo la reale funzione, quella di serbatoio idrico. Tale patrimonio ha caratterizzato l’architettura e la realtà sociale dei primi del ‘900 modificandone lo skyline di molti paesi del Sud Italia. Si tratta di edifici dalla natura residenziale che al loro interno nascondono, all’ultimo piano, una vasca di raccolta dell’acqua. L’obiettivo è restituire la memoria e valorizzare tipologie e tecniche costruttive storiche evitando la perdita dell’identità di un momento storico ed invece reintegrare e riutilizzare queste testimonianze con funzioni ed attività diverse rispetto a quelle originarie. Metodologia e approccio a tale tema, sono validate sul caso studio dell’“Ex Acquedotto dell’Agri” della città di Bernalda (MT), nel cuore del Sud Italia.
