The multitracing approach, that is the contemporaneous use of physical, chemical and iso topic parameters, involves a complex development of investigation. In complex hydrogeological situations, this approach gives reliable results by means of the interconnection and cross-verification of information. Starting from the general knowledge obtained from base hydrogeological investigations, it has been possible to refine the study by using methodologies based on environmental isotopes (deuterium and oxygen-18), oh chemical characteristics of groundwaters and on the distribution of temperature in the aquifer. Abstract

By matching the information relating to the main feeding areas, to the residence time of groundwater in the aquifer, to preferential pathways, etc., an exhaustive representation on a regional scale of the complex features of the hydrogeological system of the Murgia unit has been obtained
