Abstract
Founded on principles originating from the Costitutiones and conceived as territorial ‘principals’ for the evangelical mission, the convent complexes of the Capuchin friars confirm the settlement strategy of the religious Order. This strategy was clearly evident in Puglia where the phenomenon established itself between the 16th and 17th centuries. They are architectures where the meditative quiet was flanked by missionary activism based on the itinerancy of the friars along the pilgrimage routes between the convents that drew a real mendicant geography of begging and apostolate. The isolation from urban centers, the introverted character, the minimalism and the essentiality of the buildings were the prerogatives to realize a project of common life marked by prayer and collective activities carried out in the rooms of the church, cloister, refectory and from the individual meditation professed in the intimate dormitory cells. The study of these insufficiently understood architectures, often in a precarious state of conservation, opens the way to a cognitive itinerary aimed at reconciling with history and offering a future perspective to a forgotten heritage.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
