We study existence and multiplicity of timelike global solutions to the Lorentz force equation with stationary gravitational and electromagnetic background fields. The theory is applied to obtain some results about the number of trajectories for a charged test particle, connecting two points in the outer region of the Reissner- Nordstr¨om spacetime.
