This paper shows the results of a series of shaking-table tests performed on a 5-story reduced scale steel model protected with friction dissipators. Push-over and random vibration inputs have been first applied to characterise the model. Then a series of earthquake simulator tests have been performed on the model with and without energy dissipators. Results show the efficacy of the devices in dissipating the input energy and reducing the structural accelerations.

Abstract

This paper shows the results of a series of shaking-table tests performed on a 5-story reduced scale steel model protected with friction dissipators. Push-over and random vibration inputs have been first applied to characterise the model. Then a series of earthquake simulator tests have been performed on the model with and without energy dissipators. Results show the efficacy of the devices in dissipating the input energy and reducing the structural accelerations.
