In many areas of industrial engineering, electromagnetic couplers are becoming a widespread solution, leading to the replacement of their mechanical counterparts. An interesting type of electromagnetic couplers is represented by hysteresis ones, which guarantee a constant torque from zero to synchronous speed, low torque ripple and a simple mechanical configuration. This paper presents a scalability analysis for hysteresis couplers. After a brief re-call of the performance evaluation method, several design optimizations based on finite element analysis, simplified hysteresis model and stochastic algorithms are carried out in order to analyze the effects of the external radial dimensions in the design of hysteresis couplers and draw general design guidelines.

Abstract
