Road safety represents a fundamental demand to satisfy for any type of modern society. According to this, road safety has to be the “primary aim” of road owners and/or of management service. In this view studies have recently been carried out to control the validity of the method for determining the Global Level of Service (GLS) of an infrastructure, with specific reference to the "safety" parameter, and particularly of the group of Geometry indicators (G). With this in mind, a road network in the region of Apulia Italy has been studied and the accident data in the five-year period 1996-2000 has been compared with the corresponding values of the GLS. From the study, apart from pointing out the accuracy of the method, some considerations have emerged regarding the accident parameters to adopt in order to evaluate the risk of accidents strictly connected to the geometrical characteristics of the roads. These aspects will be discussed in the following pages
