An ultra-wideband antipodal Vivaldi antenna (AVA), operating in the range f = 3 - 9+ GHz, is designed and fabricated. It is optimized by employing a ring resonator-based metamaterial. The proposed antenna performs high gain in the whole considered frequency range. Its wideband performances promise several applications, including Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR).
