Abstract
In its value as a complex artefact, expression of a balance between form and function but poised between the idea of a design or furnishing object and that of a mechanical tool, the handle is an extraordinary seismograph of reflections on the relationship between technique and form within a typology that historically remains substantially unchanged. A meeting point between aesthetic languages and tangible proof of the experimental and innovative intentions of the great masters of the twentieth century, the handle has always been disputed by the territories of design and architecture, sometimes becoming a starting point and sometimes the result of interpretative actions on the relationship between technique and form through its materials and its productive processes. Starting from a reflection on the dialogue between technique and form in the design object analysed in its historical evolution, the contribution assumes the handle artifact in its exemplary and non-applicative dimension as a metonymic device of this dialogue, analysing it through European experiences (in particular German and Italian) the approaches and interpretations that have gradually followed one another over time.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
