Livio Vacchini’s experience takes on a radical and particularly problemat-ic perspective, especially if it refers to the relationship between drawing and research into architectural forms. Vacchini shunned the sketch as a place for the formation of ideas. Considering the project as a construction of thought, between questions and themes posed, his worktable was rath-er ‘inhabited’ by diagrams, signs, words. Instead, his drawings – those iconic ideograms that describe the concepts expressed in his architec-ture – are well known. Sometimes Vacchini used the sketch to describe the compositional ‘structure’ of some of his works. He did it during his les-sons. Here, flowing from the mind and through the hand, his signs do not construct complete images or images endowed with any iconicity. Rather, they allow us to retrace the trajectories of his thought with amazement
L’esperienza di Livio Vacchini assume una prospettiva radicale e particolarmente problematica, soprattutto se riferita al rapporto tra disegno e ricerca delle forme dell’architettura. Vacchini rifuggiva dallo schizzo come luogo di formazione delle idee. Considerando il progetto come costru zione del pensiero, tra domande e temi posti, il suo tavolo di lavoro era “abitato” piuttosto da schemi, segni, parole. I suoi disegni invece – quegli ideogrammi iconici che descrivono i concetti espressi nelle sue architetture – sono ben noti. A volte Vacchini ricorreva allo schizzo per descrivere la “struttura” compositiva di alcune sue opere. Lo faceva durante le sue lezioni. Qui, fluendo dalla mente e attraverso la mano, i suoi segni non costruiscono immagini compiute o dotate di una qualche iconicità. Piuttosto, ci permettono di ripercorrere con stupore le traiettorie del suo pensiero.
