Facing the Challenges of Transitional Landscapes in the Apulia Region

The paper addresses the intricate problems of improving the changing landscapes of contemporary urbanization, with a focus on places variously defined as peri-urban areas, urban fringes, edges, margins, where landscape changes occurring in the past decades were leaving more evident signs, and which are still under intense pressure for development. The paper discusses the attempt to adopt landscape quality as a guiding value for improving the environmental and social well-being and the economic vitality in Apulia, and as a base for enacting a new, endogenous development path.
